From the Book Nephite North...

Located in a remote and lonely desolate place in central Utah is found one of the most intriguing Native American Pictographs that I have ever seen. In addition, this panel is found in a natural amphitheater with a natural platform above it. Standing on this platform while speaking in a normal tone, one can hear as plain as day from anywhere in this approximately 256,000 square foot natural amphitheater.

Here is a pictograph panel that I was shown many years ago. I recall the impression it left me with when I had first seen it. I knew that there was something very different about it and that it was important, I could not get it out of my mind. It grabbed my attention so deeply that I later went back and spent a half day measuring it, sketching it and throwing water on it in order to bring out the detail in the faded dark colors. If you try this, always use distilled water... and only if you have the need.

I then took several photographs and with this information I went home and recreated it on a flat stone using oil paints. Since then I have revisited this site dozens of times. A few years later, a Navajo sand painter, who was staying with us for a time, took my pictures and my painting and after visiting the site to see it for himself, he then recreated this panel in a sand painting in the time that it took me to measure it. In order to understand the following analysis, you would have to have a basic understanding of LaVan Martineau’s research which you can find in his book, The Rocks Begin to Speak.

Sand Painting by Tom Clah (Clark) Navajo

The original Panel as it looked in 2001

Amphitheatre Platform

I know that the subject of this panel is of a spiritual nature due to the Red and White paint that was used and as best as I can explain it at this time, the red paint represents the Spiritual side of something. I don't know how else to explain it. White is also of a spiritual nature but it is different in that, to me, it would represent Purity or perfection; something that has either never been exposed to evil or something that has overcome evil and has reached exultation, but of the white I cannot be certain at this time. You will notice in the original pictograph painting on the back side of the snake with legs, it has white paint (Left out of sand painting). To me, this represents the Imitating of the spirit or the Purity of it.

It is my opinion that the subject of panel has to do with the highest order of authority ever given to man, not necessarily within the apostleship and is a higher order which many do not know exists.

The order is called The Council of Friends or Friends of Christ. It has also been referred to as The Quorum. It has 8 members and the head of it is Jesus Christ. Most Christians have never heard of this and to my knowledge the last man of the gentile nation to supposedly hold this authority in these times, passed away July 16th, 1974. The order was well known among the early Mormons, but would seem is not recognized today or even known or acknowledged.

The following is an excerpt from the Times and seasons Vol.6, p.979 one year after the murder of Joseph Smith.

To be called the friend of God was the highest honor conferred upon Abraham; to be called the friends of christ was the principal honor of the deciples of Christ, to whom he committed the secrets of his Kingdom, but to be called the children of God through faith in Jesus Christ, is not only the common honor of the saints; but the highest honor which could be vouchsafed to the inhabitants of the earth.

There are many references in the scriptures referring to the Friends of Christ.

D&C 93:45

45 Verily, I say unto my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., or in other words, I will call you friends, for you are my friends, and ye shall have an inheritance with me--

D&C 84:63

 63 And as I said unto mine apostles, even so I say unto you, for you are mine apostles, even God's high priests; ye are they whom my Father hath given me; ye are my friends;

In speaking with the disciples Jesus told them…..

John 15:13-14

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

A man by the name of Lorin C Woolley is quoted by Rhea A Kunz as saying,

“this highest council is composed of a nucleus of seven men, and when completed it consists of seventy and one, the “one” being the mouthpiece of God”

And also,

“….Now Lorin told about the meeting that was held after the eight hour meeting, in which five men were there and were ordained into the council of the priesthood, the highest Council. It’s known as the Sanhedrin or the Friends of God.

The Sanhedrin is known as the supreme legislative council and highest ecclesiastical and secular tribunal of the ancient Jews (Random House Webster's College Dictionary 1996, p.1189)

The information pertaining to this order is sketchy at best, but is it possible that the Native American author of this panel had full knowledge of this council? Does this panel have to do with the Council in the times of Christ, or a Council re-established from some unknown period of time, or the more recent Council which may have existed in the days of Joseph Smith?

These people, being descendants of the Jews, would likely have knowledge of this Council. It would seem common sense that the panel was authored long after the crucifixion and visitation to the Americas. I highly doubt that it was created that long ago taking into consideration that it could have been done long after the event that may have taken place at this very place where the panel is found. Given the fact that this panel is exposed to the elements in nearly the worst of circumstances with the sunshine and the rain on a south facing ledge; it would seem that the painting would not have lasted long. I believe that it is the result of a much more recent event or visitation which is supposed to have occurred in 1890 and is known as the Walker Lake Incident.

A strange event took place about this time which apparently received enough attention that it was reported in the Millennial Star.

The following testimony of Porcupine, who participated in the Walker Lake event, was included in the Millennial Star Volume 52, p-532-5, in August 25, 1890:

Fort Custer, Montana, July 5th. The reading room of the officers' club at Fort Custer on Saturday night was a scene of unusual interest. Hither had come the general who commands the post and his adjutant, these occupying a prominent position near to the entrance of the long room in question. Seated by the walls, along the sides and ends, were the officers of the garrison, with their wives and members of their families: added to all of these was a sprinkling of civilians, somewhat noticeable owing to the absence of the blue and gilt of the customary uniforms at a military post. Perhaps forty persons had so assembled.

The occasion of this was the appearance of the disciple Porcupine, a Cheyenne Indian, recently returned from a pilgrimage to visit the new Christ of the Indians at some remote and mysterious point toward the setting sun. For months past the various Indian tribes of the Northwest have been greatly exercised over the coming of this Messiah; so great has been this interest, that from way down in the Indian Territory and Texas have come messages of inquiry from the Southern Indians asking information from their Northern brethren, saying that they, too, had received the "glad tidings of great joy," and were prepared to come and sit at the feet of this great stranger. The wild Western air has been filled with strange rumors of super naturalism, and a feeling of intense anxiety has found its way among all the Indian tribes.

Some time last winter this Cheyenne Indian, Porcupine by name without the permission of his agent, started on his pilgrimage to find the Great One of whom the Indians had heard. He had neither money nor a supply of food, and was accompanied by his faithful squaw and two other Indians from the reservation of the Northern Cheyenne’s, on Tongue River, Montana, 60 or 70 miles from here. They traveled far to the westward, and saw much they had never seen before, after reaching the railroad, going much of the way by rail on which they ,were permitted to ride without charge at other times on foot; though always without money, both Indians and white men giving them food as they journeyed. But like certain wise men who once before made a pilgrimage, they found their reward and were content.

The recent return of Porcupine to the reservation made the Cheyenne’s more than usually restless and excited. Early in May the Indian agent had called for military protection, and Major Carroll, with three troops of the first cavalry, was sent to his agency by General Brisbin from this post, where they have since remained. Cattle belonging to the settlers had been killed. A man by the name of Ferguson suddenly coming on a party of Cheyenne’s at a remote place in the hills in the act of cutting up one of his steers which they had just shot, was himself killed that he might not be a witness against them. The Indians were duly arrested and turned over to the civil authorities, and they now await their trial in the jail at Miles City. A general feeling of alarm existed among the scattered settlers in the surrounding country, many of them moving their families to Miles City for safety. The settlers armed themselves for the protection of their isolated ranches, and the races watched each other anxiously for a time. It is believed, however that the presence of the troops will prevent farther trouble, and matters can be adjusted by the authorities at Washington, which it is claimed, can best be accomplished by the removal of the Cheyenne.

The reappearance of Porcupine among such conditions added to the complications with which the Indian agent had to contend, and he requested by telegraph of the Interior department at Washington that Porcupine might be arrested by the troops, which request was at once responded to by the War Department, and the arrest promptly ordered. Porcupine immediately expressed his willingness, and in fact a wish, to go without delay to Fort Custer and explain his position, and what he knew of the Savior who has come to his people. The agent withdrawing his request for the arrest, Porcupine came to Fort Custer. To hear his story was the occasion of the assembly on Saturday night, already referred to. This somewhat lengthy explanation seems necessary to a full understanding of the matter.

He was an erect handsome, and perfectly developed young Indian, standing fully six feet in height, with a pleasant, sprightly face, the mobility of his features indicating anything but the traditional Indian. Clad in a garment of striped wool red and white, the stripes several inches broad, evidently made from blankets, belted at the waist and extending to the knee, with a tuft of eagle feathers knotted in his scalp-lock, certainly he was not lacking in the picturesque. Squatting the fashion of his race, near the center of the room, just in rear of him his squaw and the two companions of his pilgrimage, through an interpreter he told what he had seen of the Christ who had now come.

His story was prefaced as all Indian " talks" are by the information that what he was now about to say was " the truth " and pointing to his mouth he indicated that his words would go straight to the front "neither to the right nor the left, he had "no forked tongue." Then rising to his full height, he assumed the exact attitude which we have been taught to believe that Jesus took when blessing the disciples the upper portion of the body slightly inclined forward, the arms extended to full length, with the hands dropping downward the eyes closed, Then he trembled violently from head to foot, alternately changing the position of his bands to across his breast, then to the waist with the left hand, the right dropping by the side. In this position he remained fully five minutes, during which the heads of his Indian companions were dropped in silence, and the room was so still that the fall of a pin might have been heard. Having completed this, seemingly a silent prayer, he resumed his former place on the floor and began.

On the wall hung a large military map of the United Sates, indicating the various army posts of the West, and so nearly as the mysterious location could to established where the Christ had been found, it was possibly in the vicinity of Walker or Pyramid Lake in Nevada. It was in the mountains. Porcupine found himself with many strange Indians, whose language he could not speak, and who like himself, had come from far off, but all had come to see the Christ. At sundown the Indians collected in large numbers, and after it became dark he appeared to them, a large fire being built to throw the light on him. He was not as dark as an Indian, nor as light as a white man, and his dress was partly like each. He sat for a long time in perfect silence, with his head bowed, during which time the Indians neither moved nor spoke. They were told that if they even whispered the Christ would know it and be displeased. After a time he raised his head, and then Porcupine saw that he was fair to look upon, that his face had no beard, and was youthful, and that his bright hair extended to the waist. Porcupine had heard that the Christ of the white man had been nailed to a cross, and, looking, he was able to see the scars of the nails in the hands of the Indian's Christ when he raised them. In his feet he could not see the marks of the nails by reason of the moccasins, but he was told they were there, and that in his side were spear marks which were concealed by the shirt he wore. Porcupine was told that his own coming had, with eleven others been foretold by the Christ, who had sent for him, and that was why he had involuntarily taken the long journey; that all the heathen tribes there represented had been influenced in the same manner, though all had not been individually called, as he had.

The Christ spoke to them and took Porcupine by the hand, and told them, that they were all his children. He talked to them until it was day, telling them that he had made them, and all the things around them; that in the beginning God had made the earth, and after a time had sent him on the earth to teach the people what was right, but the people were afraid of him, and "this is what they did to me," showing his scars. He said when he found the children were bad he went back above, and promised to return after many hundred years. Now the time was up, and God had told him the earth was old and worn out, and had sent him again to renew it, and make things better. He said that all the dead were to be resurrected and brought back to life on this earth, which was now too small to hold them all, but he would do away with heaven and make the earth large enough to hold them all. He spoke about fighting, that it was bad, and that Indians must not do it any more; that the earth hereafter, was to be all good and everybody must love one another. He said he would send those among them who could heal wounds and cure the sick by a laying on of the hands, and that the good would live here forever and the buffalo would Come back He said it was wrong to kill men of any kind, that here after the whites and the Indian would become one people; that if any man disobeyed these teachings he would be banished from the face of the earth; that the Indians must believe all that he now told them, and not say that he lied, for he would know their thoughts, no matter in what part of the world they were, and they could not expect to deceive him.

Among those whom Porcupine saw were some who seemed like white men, but they all seemed good, there was no drinking or fighting, and all listened and believed what the Christ said to them. During Porcupine's stay of many days the Christ several times repeated these talks, and told the Indians that when they returned to their people they must tell them all these things. But he was not at all times visible, and could disappear at will.

"He is here among us tonight, and knows all that we are talking about," said Porcupine.

Porcupine continued: "When I heard all these things I came back to my people, and they listened to me. Ever since I heard these things from the Christ I have thought they were good. I can see nothing bad in them. I knew my people were bad, and I got them together and told them. I warned them to listen, for it was for their own good. I talked to them four nights and five days, and said just what I said here tonight. I told them, these were the words of the Almighty God who was looking down on them and knew what was in their hearts. I wish some who are here had heard my words to the Cheyennes. They have been bad and fools and the sin of the killing of Ferguson will be visited on the whole tribe. I am sorry to say that there are one or two Cheyennes who do not believe what I have said. I wish these and some of you, would go back with me and see that I have spoken the truth. Once you have seen the Christ, you can see him in your sleep, that is, if you have shaken his hand; and through him you can go to heaven and see your friends who are dead. I see him often my sleep and he told me there was trouble for the Cheyennes.  The next night he came to me and told me that all would be well in the end" Of Porcupine's sincerity there can be no doubt. As he says himself, he is "no medicine man," and seems to have no wish to become one. That he has seen the person whom he describes as "the Christ" there seems to be no question.

F. K. UPHAM, in the Boston Journal.

If this is the case, it would be a fulfillment of two prophecies of Joseph Smith’s which are commonly thought to be false by those who attempt to discredit Joseph Smith. In January of 1835, it is said that Joseph uttered the following words:

History of the Church, Vol.2, Ch.13, p.182

……. and it was the will of God that those who went to zion, with a determination to lay down their lives, if necessary, should be ordained to the ministry, and go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, or the coming of the Lord, which was nigh--even fifty-six years should wind up the scene.

This would have been January of 1891.

A little over eight years later in 1843, the following prophecy was given…

D&C 130:15 (April 2, 1843)

15 Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man; therefore let this suffice, and trouble me no more on this matter.

This have also been in 1891; the Walker Lake incident took place sometime in the spring or early summer of 1890, when both prophecies would have been fulfilled. Could this panel have been authored shortly thereafter?

Regardless of the possibilities of an ancient origin or a more modern occurrence, I am quite confident of the subject. Next, I will present my list of the symbols which I have found within this painting. If the subject that I have attributed to this panel is in line with the panel, we should be able to validate it by the breakdown of symbols. If it does not fit, then it is probably not the subject. Keep in mind that the subject of Council of Friends is only in part the subject and I believe that there is more to it of which I feel constrained to elaborate.

In the chart above, I have listed basic symbols and symbol combinations that I have found in the painting so far along with a Base meaning. The actual derivative word or intended word or phrase will not manifest itself until the study is nearly complete or has been completed. You will notice some symbols or symbol combinations which I have not assigned a word, but instead a number, The purpose of this is that they warrant further discussion so that you can understand why I give them the eventual meaning that will be made known later herein.

Perhaps a visit to this panel is in order to see its nearby and likely associated paintings so that you can get a first hand view of what it actually looks like.

Beginning with symbol # 1 LaVan Martineau gives it the meaning of Arrow Head or pointing as in directional. I would agree for the most part, however, I think that something is missing and I will explain why. When it is shown pointing horizontally, I believe that it means exactly what LaVan has said, but when it is pointing up or down, it takes on a whole different meaning, yet the directional meaning is retained within. Keep in mind that the panels that LaVan has studied in order to come up with this meaning, may have been all the horizontal triangles such as those with the meaning of War or Conflict have been given. I believe that there is more to this symbol depending on its positioning or use. I believe than LaVan knew this and I completely understand why he would have left this part out due to the sacredness of this point.

The meaning of war or conflict is meant when two triangles are positioned horizontally and pointing to each other, but when used vertically, a new meaning comes into play.

From the Temples Of Most High

(Significance of Ancient, Geometric Symbols pg.240, 241

“We will now draw these symbols that you may better understand them:

“You will notice that there are two triangles, one with the point downward, and the other with the point upward. These are combined in the symbol of the interlaced triangles, or the six pointed star. The triangles when used separately gives each triangle a distinct and separate meaning. The one with the point upward, is called the symbol of manifestation on the, material plane, and symbolizes mankind focusing their thoughts on God; the triangle with the point downward represents manifestation on the spiritual, or Divine plane, and symbolizes God’s consciousness focalized on mankind. In this six pointed star formed by the interlaced triangle we symbolize the blending, or uniting, of the physical and the spiritual.

The square represents building uprightly on a strong secure foundation. The circle, which is endless, is the universal symbol of eternal life. The square and the interlaced triangles are the only two equiangular and equilateral figure, the sum of whose exterior angles equals 360 degrees, or perfection, as symbolized by the circle. From these symbols, we learn that by building uprightly on a strong secure foundation, we unite the physical and the spiritual, and with them inseparably connected, as symbolized by the interlaced triangles, we have eternal life.”

What I get from this, is that the triangle pointing to another triangle vertically represents communication between man and God.

The pyramids were built for the purpose of man communicating with God which is why it is an upright triangle. Of course, the fact that it would have been difficult to build them upside down might have been a factor also. But seriously, this is the very reason the pyramid takes the shape that it does as the entire purpose of it was for the very thing its shape represents.

This brings us to the upside down triangle and its meaning God communicating with man. It literally means just the opposite of the right side up triangle and this is why I had left the meaning of symbol # 1 alone, as in this case. I cannot accept the meaning that it’s simply an Arrow Head.

Now that we have covered symbol # 1, we can move to symbol combination # 3 and perhaps better understand its meaning. Is it possible that the reason that the main entity’s head takes this shape is because it represents the very entity which is the conduit and/or medium of all that comes from God to man signifying Christ, Himself? Notice the rounded corners of the triangle which forms the main entity’s head, which is the incorporation of the circle with a base meaning of Holding. Could this be because it is his right to hold this position or that he is the one who holds it, the Right of the First Born, the Only Begotten Son and the Savior of the earth? And then we have the white eyes like those of the other entities, with a base meaning of Look Closely,  Focused  or an eye single to the glory or the entity of whom the color white represents and meaning purity which is likely the Holy Ghost, what are we all supposedly trying to obtain? Is it Purity and/or Perfection?

I must also point out that the arms and hands of the main deity are in the position signifying Doing some act or Speaking. Could this have been a place where this deity came and visited the inhabitants, or could it be a place where an ordination took place involving 7 of these inhabitants?

Let’s look at symbol # 2. I have been completely unaware of this symbol and have not yet seen it in any panel; however, I can see that it is actually a combination of two, three or maybe even four possibilities. The first symbol that I see in this combination is Holding and the second is Something There, the third possibility is an Area or Object and a fourth is that it may represent a short time comparatively speaking to eternity. This may be the short symbol for trail, go, or path of life representing the time in which he holds this position but the eyes within this short line would tell me these were men who lived in righteousness or at least righteousness is what they sought after or were focused on (Look Closely).

Now this glyph forms the head of the remaining 7 figures. Are they representative of The Living or are they of the Spirit? I really don’t know. My studies would indicate that the spirit side of these 7 entities is what is referred to regardless of whether they were among the living at that time. If a spiritual nature is intended as in the main entity, then what would be the purposes of the red and white stripes on the body of the figure? Perhaps it is signifying the process of obtaining perfection? Perhaps more study is needed pertaining to the colors. I don’t know at this time, but it is my guess that these figures represent 7 living, or 7 living at that time of the panel’s creation. It is their spiritual nature, condition or well-being that I see as the topic in the panel, not the physical or flesh aspect.

If this is a representation of men having received some authority, knowledge or calling, is there a symbol present in the panel that could support this receiving? Could this be the purpose of the goat symbols with a meaning of lateral movement? Their positioning seems to be related to the main deity while going away from it towards the 7 figures. With these goat symbols being red, it would mean NOT a physical movement but a spiritual movement such as giving or receiving depending on your view.

If this is the case and the meaning is as I have said, or near what I have said, then the symbols above each of the heads might have something to do with this same authority, the use of it, or possibly some characteristic of the figure that it is associated with. Each one on the left seems to be different from the rest. On the other hand, the figures on the right are quite similar to each other.

Starting with the figure on the left and going to the right, we see what appears to be two symbols while a third might be intended also. This is what I see as a breakdown of just the symbols above this figure’s head…

Now, I’m not quite sure what I get from this and I don’t know if the two last symbols were intended. However, based on the subject that I have assigned to this panel, it must fit in some way. Perhaps this guy was a quick learner of knowledge, but I can’t help but wonder why the Fast symbol was placed in the Barring position. Perhaps it means something like due to his quick submission to fear he denied himself knowledge. Whatever the intended meaning, it seems that the combination was placed at this position to imply a prevention of progression.

As pertaining to the second figure from the left, I’m not even going to venture a guess until I return to the panel. There are just too many possibilities of details that could change the meaning.

The third figure from the left…

Now given the previous discussion in regards to the head of the smaller figures, it would appear to me that this figure’s authority, knowledge, inspiration or ability to give or receive this knowledge, is Held and to further give credibility to this, the barring or prevention of progression is above his head.

The Figures on the right side of the deity all seem to be the same with only minor differences such as a greater or lesser degree of receiving, movement of progression, authority, knowledge, inspiration, or what have you.

It would appear to me that these four figures were to some degree more receptive to the incoming knowledge. I said Receiving or Incoming because I have learned over the years that when a dot and line exist such as you see in these four figures, if the dot were attached to the line, then it represents the starting point with the meaning Go FROM here. If the line is detached from the dot, then it would mean Go TO here with the dot indicating Here. In other words, the lines and dots above these head figures represent movement towards the head or Incoming. Note that there are both red lines and a few white lines. This would appear to me to mean that spiritual movement along with a little incoming spiritual movement of the Holy Ghost is taking place. The second figure from the far left is obviously having more incoming spiritual movement than the others. It would be my guess that this guy is the Anointed One and the others are possibly apostles. Also note that in the two figures closest to the right side of the main deity, the lines above their heads are leaning towards the deity as if this is the source.

Now what of this serpent-like figure on the extreme right side? I believe this absolutely represents Satan. You will notice the same lines and dots above his head. This tells me that he too is given instruction. In my mind, that would indicate that he is allowed to do so by way of tempting. Notice his feet in the Commencing or attempting position as perhaps he is Allowed to Tempt these figures. Notice the four snakes on the left and the repeated (sequence) temptation of Satan’s little helpers.

There are a few more things left to analyze in this Panel:

Ø    1. The fingerprints above the main panel

Ø    2. The purpose of the differences between the white and red stripes of what I will call the “Robes” of the 7 figures

Ø    3. The purposes of the two dots or fingerprints on each side of the main deity (Again, I would like to examine this more closely in a return trip to Ferron.)

Ø    4. The fingers of the main deity

I did notice one other thing. If you will notice the 7 figures and their basic layout, you will see incorporated in the figures, the symbol for Communication. This, however, is not conclusive.

I have often said that if there is no meaning in a particular part of the Petroglyph/Pictograph, it would not be there, and that the communication symbol has never failed me in LaVan Martineau’s work.

The neck of these figures serves a purpose and a meaning. It wasn’t painted just to make the figure look cool or complete. Its purpose is to join the head and body for the purpose of conveying the message of communication, possibly of mind and body, or purification of the body through spiritual intake, if you will, which may be directly related to the purposes of the white and red colors in the robes. I can’t help but wonder if the purpose of several life lines within the figure’s own life line which forms his body, is not the representation of the sealing process of those that are sealed to him. The reason for white and red lines denotes male and female. This is all that I feel at liberty to explain in this report.

Another observation has been brought to my attention. I had not thought of this, but if you take a look at the deity which I have called Satan, some of you may wonder how I arrived at this figure as being a representation of Satan. Now, I have told many of you NOT to go with first impressions. Yet, for the most part, this is what I did with respect to this panel. So now, I get to show you why it represents Satan and his temptations of the figures that he faces in this panel. Is it a coincidence that this symbol combination looks like a snake with legs? Probably not, but I want you to get out of the habit of following first impressions as it can lead you to false conclusions in the true meaning. By all means, take them into consideration, but set them aside until they are confirmed through a breakdown of the panel.

We all know the story of the Old serpent Satan who tempted Eve to partake of the forbidden fruit and how snakes used to have legs and walk uprightly, but because the snake allowed itself to be used by Satan, he was cursed to crawl upon his belly for the remainder of time. His legs were taken from him. I confess that this is why I called this symbol combination, Satan.

Let’s take a closer look at the symbols that make up this combination.

First, let’s look at the head of this serpent. Now, I am not certain about it and a return trip to the panel is in order to verify the details, but I would say that this is the symbol for an Objectionable Place and the tail that is attached to this head is showing his intent and movement towards the ground and PAST the feet of this figure showing Movement Down which is not limited to the physical ground but BEYOND to a place even lower, that being the depths of hell.

The head and the tail make up the symbol for Gone or Go from Here depending on your English teacher, and that being a downward motion. With it being red, it now becomes a downward spiritual motion. Below the head, we see a long line extending from the head to the legs, with the legs representing commencing or temptation, or if I may; Attempting to Tempt. This line may also represent the course of time or Path of life or period in which Satan has to tempt man. Also, there is the possibility to further this thought that the symbol of Beneath may also be present.

With all of this said, let’s go to the bodies or robes of the 7 deities. In the same respect in which the long line from the head of the Snake to its legs may represent the path of life of time. Could this also be applied to the 7 figures? These bodies, if you look closely, are arched at the top which is the symbol for Rock, Mound or Mountain. Because this arch extends a long way and looking like a very tall mound; this isn’t far from the truth. This would mean a very high place. Being red and white, you can bet that it means the heavens or an intended meaning of exultation and that through receiving knowledge, you make perfect the body that it may be exalted. The body or robe, also being a long line, may represent the course of the man’s life and/or those within.

It is my belief that these glyphs that you see here are actually what have been called Reformed Egyptian. Do you see the similarities in which the symbols are applied making a combination of symbols just as the Egyptians, Mayans and Aztecs have done? If you have done your homework, you will see that many (if not all) of these single base symbols have the same origins and/or meaning as the Egyptian, Mayan and Aztec symbols. So, with that in mind, what is the difference?

Egyptian, Mayan and/or Aztec have a Grouping of symbols just as the Indian Petroglyphs do. From my perspective, the main difference is that the Egyptian and Mayan glyphs were limited to a small group of symbols in forming a phrase to be spoken known as a character, whereas the Indian Petroglyphs do not have this limitation as they can have meaning changes instilled by positioning of the symbols or Placement and most importantly, Symbol Incorporation along with Rock incorporation. With this, much can be said in a small place as you see here in. If this is not Reformed Egyptian, then I will venture to say that it is A Form of Reformed Egyptian. If true, it would be no wonder that very few were allowed to see the plates of Mormon.

I can hear it now. OH! That’s Just Doodling! That’s just Hunting Magic! That’s just scribbling! That’s Just a drawing that is only meant to be understood by the author. I’ve heard it all. One thing, that is sad about this, is that some of these comments have come from the very people whose ancestors have made them and they have forgotten it.

Conclusion

This concludes this analysis, at least until I have made a return trip to the panel which will be on Sunday. I hope you have all learned something from this. I know I have. Some of you may think that this must have taken me a lot of long hours of study to come up with. The fact is, on the day when I started this paper, the only thing that I knew about this panel (that you did not know) was that I had a suspicion that the subject of the panel was The Council of Friends and that was a first impression after looking at it hanging on my wall for over two YEARS! I have also learned over the years that if the information does not flow as you create your list to fit the proposed subject, chances are, your subject is incorrect.

Many of us have contemplated the implications of Jesus, the Christ, visiting the Americas. Hardly any of us have explored the more recent implications and possibility of a more recent visit. Regardless, is it possible we have found one of the many places where He stood and instructed a remnant of the House of Israel? How many of us have visited the many places in Israel just to satisfy the desire to stand where we believe Jesus may have stood and taught the people? I have stood on the platform above this panel. All that I can say is that the feeling I have had of the possibility that Jesus once stood here and had taught the inhabitants, the remnant of Israel, was nothing short of fantastic. Whether He did or did not is irrelevant to me. It is something that you would have to experience for yourself.

Until we learn how to create our own glyphs in the manner that the authors of this panel did, IT IS necessary to make a breakdown list and look for the subject. Notice your first impression, but don’t let it be your guide. Let the breakdown prove your impression. What I’m trying to tell you is that once you understand how it is done and you learn what to look for, it is as easy as learning a new language. Any of you can do it. I only hope that you will always use it for the right reasons.

I forgot to mention... there is more to this panel. If you take a look at the original panel, you will see just below the figures on the right that there is some painting... If I recall, it was ignored as it appeared to be painted over, now I wonder...

In the following pictures, you will notice what using distilled water can do for you when trying to see details of an old painting. What I found out is that what I thought was Additional painting to the original is not so. It became obvious that at a later date an additional painting was done over the original. Other than some details, it appears that I was fairly accurate in my recreation of the panel while ignoring the painting which was done at a later date for whatever reason. The red paints that were used in the two are apparently from different sources and although they look the same in the pictures, they are very different in real life. Notice the effects the water causes by following the order of the pictures.

As the panel appears normally, notice the eyes of the main deity.

Notice how by adding the water it brings out the dark color, but do you see what it does to the white? Again notice the eyes of the main deity, still nothing.

As the panel begins to dry, notice the eyes of the main deity which was masked by the second painting. Notice in the center of the bodies of the figures on the right: a white head begins appearing of a larger deity which is part of the second painting.
