I have always been just as fascinated with the individual glyphs as much as the entire panels...

Here are just a few photos from southern Utah near Kanab on the western boarder of Grand Staircase National Monument but on private property.

A Very Strange Glyph in an Unlikely Place

Ok, so I was going through some photos from the end of last year, and I came across this one, I wasn't sure why my sweet Amy took the photo, but I did tell her, "Take Pictures of EVERYTHING"...

As many times as I have been to this very popular place, I have never noticed this glyph and if I did, I never took a pic of it, likely because you can hardly see it... There is another to the right of it and I hope to learn more about it later....

First I enhanced the colors with hue and saturation to see if there was anything worth while... you know me, always looking for a reconstruction project... well this was the results...

This was starting to look very interesting... It is one thing to walk upon a glyph site you have never seen before, but to get a glimpse of a glyph that has likely been hidden from view for hundreds of years and you know you are the first to lay eyes on it since... is another... wow I thought, what is this?

Well, being a fairly new comer to D-stretch I decided to run it through so to speak and to my surprise, this pops up... What the.... ?

Now I have been playing this Petroglyph Pictograph thing for a long time, and this is not your typical Native American glyph, what is it and why is it here at this place known for its unusual glyph but not this unusual? I took the liberty of highlighting only the areas I could justify with confidence with the results in the following picture... and it may not be entirely accurate... I see more possabilities but lack enough evidence to justify it...

Help me out here... What am I looking at? Is it of origin I think it might be? Why is it here?

I could possibly use some help from advanced users of D-Stretch and tips, I have discovered using D-Stretch that the quality of the photo is everything, also the closer the lens is to the rock face and the better the focus the better the ability for D-Stretch to do what it does...

I have a friend, Coty Tabbee who lives just minutes from the site who shagged dozens of photos yesterday... of all of them, only one or two gave additional minor detail... so today he is there again seeing if he can get closer, clearer and more focused shots... This glyph may have been missed by literally thousands also due to the fact it is 15 feet off the ground...

New Pictograph Found!

Yes... I know this is not a pictograph.... read on...

Now although the images here are not a pictograph, they are petroglyphs which very few know of the location... This panel was shown to me by my good friend Greg...  Even though I knew I was not the first in recent times, the thrill when you finally get there and see them for the first time is something I cannot describe....

Please enjoy the following pictures... But THIS IS NOT the pictograph panel found this morning by myself, and with the help of D-stretch... this is such an awesome tool!

I was going through some photos taken last year, and as always I take pictures of EVERYTHING, even if it is barely visible... as I was going through the pictures I noticed barely a faint red line of antiquity... apparently I had seen it in person or I would not have taken the picture... I decide to take a closer look using D-Stretch and holy Sh...! er um... wow!... what is that? I thought... HELLO!

I can't wait to share it but I am going to try to digitally reconstruct the Image, with the help of Coty Tabbee now on his way to the site to get more pictures, we will see if reconstruction is possible....

The thrill of finding your first panel is one thing... but to find a panel, that you know no one has seen in hundreds of years and yet literally hundreds if not thousands have walked right by it... is a whole other thrill.... Be patient and I will share it when I have a presentation of it prepared...

A Spring day at Clear Creek

The year was about 1985 when I first stumbled across my first Native American Petroglyph… I was so taken in by it I just had to find out who did it, and what it meant,,,

Today, I think I still only have a small part of what was intended…

After spending weeks literally in the Libraries, searching for anyone who may have some glimmer of what the glyphs may mean, and finding that the academic world in a nut shell, knew nothing,,, I found LaVans book the Rocks Begin to speak… I approached the book with great skepticism, as it was my nature… after about the first five year of trying to disprove his hypothesis, or prove it, I gave up on trying to disprove it as it was very clear to me, the writings on the rocks were absolutely an intended message of the past.

I wish I had a dollar for every claim that comes from the pomp of some claiming to have been going to the hills for 40 or even 50 years with this somehow in their mind making them and expert… what they don’t tell you is that in those years, their trips to the hills was an occasional weekend that occurred maybe a dozen times a year… even in their advanced age… and a dollar for every claim who says they have read LaVans book and now can read the writings on the rocks, and yet in every case I am aware of, they always bastardised his work by bringing in their own assumptions rather than stick to the core of what he taught,,,  I make no such claim, as it has been 30 years now and I am still trying to make sense of it… Yes, I do believe his hypothesis has merit… as I have countless times proven TO MYSELF the validity of it…

Clear Creek Canyon glyphs was my first Commercial Government controlled site, I have ever since been fascinated with the site, but more so those things not visited by the general public. On my first trip to the site which encompassed 3 days… I recall noticing what I call locator glyphs, and decided to follow them to see what it is they lead to… After arriving at what I felt was the final destination, and the day came to an end, I finished up by visiting the curator of the day, a very pleasant man. I told him of a set of glyphs I had been lead to deeper in, he acknowledged the same place having been to it several times himself, and he asked what I thought it meant, without hesitation I told him it was a burial site of a significant recognized authority figure of the past… and that he should keep an eye on it as there was evidence of digging..  His eyes popped open and his jaw dropped… I asked… what’s wrong? He told me that just a few years prior that archaeologist exhumed a grave site there and that it was clearly a man held in high regard as evidenced by the articles taken… This is when I realized the unlawful immoral act of the looting process of grave robbing of our ancestors is that it can be changed to status of a licensed thief, which is still unlawful and immoral.  License means permission to do something that without it is therefore illegal. I do not recall anyone obtaining permission from the Native American to loot their ancestors graves... Enough of that rant…

Clear Creek has ever since been one of my favorite places to go, although now government controlled at least the destruction by those who were so short sited to see… has stopped for the most part, something that likely would not have had there not been intervention… we won’t talk about the destruction that occurred, and is downplayed and not talked about, at the building of I-70… I often have to tell myself to just shut up and enjoy! LOL

Color Corrections Buckhorn Panels

I think my near two decade fetish is about fulfilled... just some color corrections...

You will notice that three of the figures in the laft panel have been painted over at some point in the past, I tried to capture this as it would have appeared at the time it was painted over....

Digital Remastering of Buckhorn Wash

After 25 years of wondering what did this fantastic group of panels look like when the author[s] painted them, and looking for ways to bring back what was lost, faded, difficult to see and or intentionally destroyed... For the most part, I am finished with the Buckhorn pictographs... with one more to follow... I think...

The photo below was one of the most desired of the project, but I saved it for last, well almost... although it remains in fairly good condition for a several hundred year old painting...  the more I dove into it, and the use of modern technologies, I feel confident of about 90% accuracy if not more. Keep in mind, in reality I only enhance what remains  as little as it is at times. All of this is for my own purposes in the study of the Native American Glyphs, my need to see what we have always believed was impossible, and my need to share the results...

I hope you have enjoyed this as much as I did, a project that started near 25 years ago when I first saw the site, I just knew that someday, we would be able to see what seemed to have been lost to time... who would have thought back then or even imagined that it could actually be done....
Untill the technologies become even greater... I can put this one to rest except for color corrections and detail improvement due to my maticulous nature... The last panel at Buckhorn undergoing digital reconstruction should be ready in the next day or so...
